BEEN THERE
NOT ONLY AM I ON THE OTHERE SIDE... I'M THRIVINGI couldn't be more nervous, thrilled, and excited to welcome you to New Roots. You see, News Roots was birthed out of a serious season of walking through adversity, and grieving in my life. For me, it was a time of deep loss, hurt, and not knowing exactly how to navigate the future. How did get through it? One step at a time, sometimes crawling one inch at a time, but by the grace of God I made it through, and so will you.
MORE ABOUT SHEMEAKA
I was born to Cathy Costley in Naples, Italy on her first Naval tour of duty. You can consider me a Navy brat. I’ve spent the majority of my life in Jacksonville, Florida. It was here that attended the University of North Florida and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sports Medicine & Athletic Training in 2006. Shortly there after I became a nationally Certified Athletic Trainer via the NATA BOC. I was then officially licensed to practice by the state of Florida. From there I worked 13 year in pain management. That is where a love of coaching really took root while helping others recover from years of painful chronic diagnoses, some of which had completely lost hope. All the while I continued my educational pursuits with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. There I gained my Nutrition Specialist, Corrective Exercise, Performance Enhancement certifications.
In 2018 I would leave Jacksonville on an endeavor to central Florida that would change my life forever. Let’s just say at on that fateful morning when FDLE raided my home, my then 12 year marriage did not escape unscathed. In 2020, I lost my mother and my husband, but I found a whole lot of hope. Upon returning to Jacksonville, I entered into a time of extensive counseling with certified betrayal truama specialists. I didn’t just learn to live with my PTSD but I learned to live inspite of it. I returned to coaching with a renewed affection. I obtained my behavior change specialist certification, and dove into integrative and functional wellness. So for me, coaching isn’t just something I do, it’s everything that I have lived, and I am better for it.
